Thanks for the post. Agriculture sector is the most vulnerable due to climate change. The adaptation to climate change requires more effort on research and extension of climate resilient seeds. Innovation of climate resilient seeds requires consideration of changed temperature, salinity and other necessary climatic components. But the quality of food crops also required to be maintained properly. For example, we might innovate the saline resilient seeds which may be very poor in nutrition value. After innovation the extension of the technology to the farmers level is also challenging as they have to accept it. So, the adaptation of climate change in agriculture sector is very challenging.

  2. Shahzada Mohiuddin says:

Thanks, Climate change will affect all four dimensions of food security: food availability, food accessibility, food utilization and food systems stability. It will have an impact on human health, livelihood assets, food production and distribution channels, as well as changing purchasing power and market flows. Its impacts will be both short term, resulting from more frequent and more intense extreme weather events, and long term, caused by changing temperatures and precipitation patterns
People who are already vulnerable and food insecure are likely to be the first affected. Agriculture-based livelihood systems that are already vulnerable to food insecurity face immediate risk of increased crop failure, new patterns of pests and diseases, lack of appropriate seeds and planting material, and loss of livestock. People living on the coasts and floodplains and in mountains, drylands and the Arctic are most at risk.

  3. Fayjus Salehin says:

As far as food security is concerned we have to concentrate on the rational distribution of food among the poor, and rich. As per Amarta Sen, Famine never occurred due to food shortage but for imbalanced distribution of food (for this he conferred Nobel Prize). Despite having bumper production of rice, lots of poorer people suffering from malnutrition. So, we cannot get rid of this problem just producing abundant crops. We have to ensure good governance. The developed world wasting foods but we cannot make sure minimum diet.

Bangladesh also facing serious problems of deforestation, fresh water scarcity and pollution, and land degradation and desertification alongside loss of ecosystem services and biodiversity. Whether it is affect of climate change or over exploitation due to excessive demand and consumption, it required further study.
Thanks it is a nice post.

  6. Fayjus Salehin says:

Bangladesh has no scarcity of fresh water (except very few areas) so far, as we are a country of downstream and regular torrential rain. But the problem is the mismanagement and over extraction of ground water. We polluted Buriganga, Balu, and Turag River; otherwise these could be the cheapest source of fresh water. Climate will be changing but we have to change or prevent our bad practices.
